Tim Dehnhoff is a man who has turned tragedy into triumph. From a thirty foot fall, paralysis, and using a wheelchair to a several thousand foot climb up a steep glacier peak using crutches, ankle braces, and sheer determination, Tim Dehnhoff is an ordinary man who has dared to attempt—and has clearly accomplished—extraordinary things.

After a 30 foot fall that caused his body to become paralyzed, Tim refused to allow his disability to become an excuse for not living life to its fullest. In fact, what Tim lost in his body’s ability to function, he gained in his appreciation for life and in his understanding of what it takes for any ordinary person to experience the very best that his/her life has to offer.

The important lessons that came through Tim’s hard-ache and pain, he now communicates to hundreds at a time as a motivational speaker, inspiring his audiences to reach for their dreams. The standing ovations he receives are as much in recognition for his accomplishments as they are for the audience’s realization that they too being “ordinary” can begin to experience their deepest and most heartfelt dreams.

As the coordinator for the Think First Program, I have had the privilege of Tim working as one of our program’s premiere speakers. As a Think First speaker, he has challenged thousands of children and youth with a message that has helped to protect them from traumatic injury, permanent disability, and death. What’s more, where the ThinkFirst message leaves off is where Tim’s OptimizeU2 message begins.

Having spoken to many large audiences with Tim, his OptimizeU2 message does more than make his audience feel good after hearing it. Tim equips his audience with both the principles they need to experience the extraordinary, as well as the mindset they need to begin apply those principles. While he is speaking, his audiences will laugh, and they will cry. And when he is finished they will stand to their feet not only to applaud, but—more importantly—to begin walking in and experiencing the extraordinary.

Tim is a highly skilled and effective public speaker. Whether challenging students through an assembly presentation, motivating employees through a keynote address or motivational seminar, or equipping business people through leadership and team building workshops, I highly recommend Tim Dehnhoff!

Dear Tim,

Thank you so much for your great presentation here at Snohomish on June
29th, “Cool,” “I really like the movie,” and “Tim is a real inspiration” were just a few of the enthusiastic comments I heard from children and from the Boys and Girls Club leaders.

Tim, you did a wonderful job of maintaining the interest of a large and varied group of people. You were really able to make your points about thinking first and being safe in a strong and memorable way. I think the audience members will be much more careful about wearing their helmets at all times after seeing what can happen to their melons, that is their heads, with and without their helmets on.

Thank you again for coming to Snohomish. Your presentation provided important facts and an inspirational message that the children will undoubtedly remember for years to come.

Sincerely,

Tim Dehnhoff came to our school to give a presentation on spinal cord injuries through my club, Students Against Violence Everywhere. He worked very well with the students, adding elements of humor and interactive activities to keep the program engaging. One activity involved having a girl from the audience pretend that a melon was a human brain, and experimenting on the differences between wearing and not wearing a helmet by throwing it on the floor. Especially with a large group, small segments like this one are vital to keeping the attention of a group of teenagers. Tim seemed very capable of keeping them well entertained. His overall attitude on his condition was refreshing and inspiring to all who came to the assembly. Several students I spoke with mentioned that they would be interested in having more assemblies like this one, possibly as an all-school presentation.

Thank you, Tim, for making us aware of your story and of the consequences behind our behaviors. Good luck on all of your future adventures.

Good Morning Tim!

I am the teacher from Garfield who spoke to you at the end of your presentation - the one from Everett. Thank you so much for coming to our school. You are indeed an inspiration to everyone. When you spoke of how your accident made you think differently I could very well relate. I was in a near fatal head on collision 13 years ago with my son who was 4 at the time. I nearly died and he suffered injuries that lead to 13 years of care from Children's Hospital. He just had his final surgery in November 2005. This accident taught me to never take life for granted. Never do I leave home each morning without telling my son how much I love him. If we have an argument before I leave I always call him on my cell phone before I am out of the driveway to say it. Also I learned how to live my life more fully without putting off things I want to do. You never know if you will live long enough to do those things so don't put them off.

Again - thank you for coming to GHS and I wish you all the best on the Rainier and the Everest endeavors. I'll be checking the Discovery Channel!

To Whom It May Concern:

Tumwater High School had the privilege of having Tim Dehnhoff come to our school through the “Think First” assembly program and  his company OPTIMIZEu2, Inc..  Tim’s was very personable and genuine as he talked with our students and staff during and after the assembly.            Tim’s story is one that students can identify with and his message is one that all will keep with them for a long time.  Tim is an incredible person, intelligent, articulate, charismatic, with a fantastic sense of humor and a very positive message for students and adults alike.  He knows how to speak to small and large audiences in a way that peaks their interest. I would highly recommend Tim for any audience in any setting.

Dear Tim,

Thank you so much for your wonderful message about thinking first and optimizing your life. Your message is so important for our youth to hear that life has decisions and with these decisions or life choices come consequences.

The students enjoyed your inspiring presentation about how one can live a positive and productive life if you have a brain or spinal injury or if you don't.

With the information that was heard by the students today, their lives have forever been changed- they will begin to Think First and OPTIMIZE their lives.

Sincerely,

As Program Director of the Think First organization of WA, I have had the pleasure to work with Tim for the past three years.  Tim's abilities and talent, as a public speaker for the statewide school safety assembly program, has benefited our organization, in so many ways.  I know that as a public speaker, Tim is going to continue to make a difference in the lives of people nationwide through his motivational, and inspirational presentations from OPTIMIZEu2, Inc.

Tim has been a leader in Think First Speaker Program, and has given successful presentations to students of all ages throughout Washington State. Tim's ability to capture an audience is enhanced through his humor, and positive outlook on life.  I would highly recommend Tim for any school, organization, business, function or event, because he will win anyone over with his charismatic personality, and passion for life.  Tim has a gift that is very rare, and as a public speaker he will continue to make a difference in the lives of others.  I think everyone can learn so much from Tim and his experiences!
