Tim’s Daily Journal
A DAY
WITHOUT DISCOMFORT, IS A DAY
WITHOUT POSITIVE CHANGE!
09-25-06 Tim R. Dehnhoff
"It's better to
burn out then to fade away!" Or
something like that, I finally
have a moment to catch my
breath, and jot down my
thoughts. The
Plain100 was a success,
we had good weather (below the
normal 90 or 100 ) A
great field, a few that had
finished before and the result
was a record 7 finishers and new
course record of 26:59.40 Tim
Stroh (old record -
27:14.30)
www.cascaderunningclub.com
Well, the 3
Fingers trip has been put on
hold for now, to many reasons to
mention right now. I'm very
disappointed! I'll find
other things to
occupy my time and
energy, until I can get back to
radar lock on 3 Fingers, I will
bag this one, it's just a matter
of when.
I would
like to say THANK YOU to the 3
Fingers team,
despite everything, is
still behind me 100%.
Also to
RJ
(web
master of this site) for
all your hard work---Thanks
buddy, :-}
Mit.
I'll be
competing in my off road
wheelchair.
Many more things
to do before then.

What
a great day!!!
Up early, exercised, showered,
and ready for church.
Church is always awesome, today
was a step above that somehow
(Thank You Fran :-)
Then Myself, Tammy, Tayna,
Tiffany (Tayna’s friend/Family
friend) went to the Evergreen
State Fair in Monroe.
We ate and ate and ate some
more, that was fulfilling :-}
People watching is my second
favorite thing to do at the
fair, all I can say is, God has
a sense of humor.
We arrived back a Case De
Dehnhoff, around 1730, just in
time for my second workout of
the day,
Let’s just say, I burned off at
least half the fair food on this
one.
You are more than You Think You
Are
and You Can Do More Than You
Think You Can!
Until next time,
Praise God
Blessings to you :-}
It's been awhile, Hi,I've been
so busy;
OPTIMIZEING
(business), Getting ready for
the 3 Fingers Climb, Search and
Rescue Missions,
Coordinating the Support
for the
PLAIN100
Ultra
Endurance Race (Sept.
8-10) in Plain WA., I've
barly had time to sleep.
Please check out this link,
www.cascaderunningclub.com
It explains the
PLAIN100 better than I
have time to do right now, very
cool.
I'll leave you today with the
following poem I wrote for the
PLAIN100 3 years ago,
that not only applies to the
runners and the race, but life
itself! :-}

“Just Plain Tough”
Sat/Sun Sept. 9th & 10th
2006
Finishing not the only Prize!
To train and start this race may
not be enough
The Plain 100 is JUST PLAIN
TOUGH
Into the dark you all must go
Where you’ll stop, nobody
knows
It’s always darkest before the
suns rise
Success is in the journey
Finishing not the only Prize
Whether you make it back here or
not
You have the drive to start,
something most have forgot
A by stander or a participant,
yours to chase
If your not living life on the
edge
You’re taking up to much
space
You’re will to finish
is ALL so clear
By or before 5:PM on Sunday
We expect to see you right back
HERE
Remember:
Quitting is the very last
obstacle just before success!
Ours prayers go with you

I'll see if I
can get caught up, yeah right,
I'll do my best :-}
My son (Tyson)
and I went with three other
father son combos to Sunriver
Oregon from 08-11 to 18, it was
an awesome vacation from rooftop
to the basement! We canoed,
rafted, hiked, and just laid
around and did nothing, once in
a while. We watched movies, ate
way to much and just laughed a
lot, in short enjoyed each
others company!
The few days
I've been back I've been playing
life catch up,
ya know how that
goes, right?!
All is on
schedule for Sept. Three Fingers
assault.
Get Out There, Get After It,
No Excuses, No Regrets!
08-09-06
WOW, your never
guess who I ran into today!
OK, this deserves
an explanation. In 1998 I took a
long rappel off a short rope, fell
approximately thirty feet. To make a
long story short (or as brief as I
can be)I ended up with a T-12
incomplete spinal cord injury. This
eventually landed me at Provident
Hospital (Pacific Campus) second
floor rehabilitation unit. I was in
the hospital a total of three
months, 6 weeks of which was
rehab. My Occupational Terrorist (I
mean Therapist) was Kim C. It was
Kim's Job to get me up and going,
very early every morning, to teach
me how to take care of myself again,
post injury, to get back my
independence.
Crash Cart Kim (CCK);
I found out the first morning, that
Kim has the coldest hands on the
planet, like ice cube hands. Kim was
helping roll me over or transferring
me in to my wheelchair or
something icy hands on, it was then
I Nick named her CCK. Kim of course
wanted to why CCK? I explained to
her, that she could wake up the dead
with those cold hands, ya know like
on ER, when someone is dying and
they put those paddles on the
persons chest and yell CLEAR!
Well, the cart that
carries that piece of equipment, is
call a crash cart.
There you go, now
you know :-}
It was great to see
Kim, she's doing great, happily
married, looks fantastic and with
her ever present bubbly,
effervescent demeanor in tact. I'm
not sure if Kim will ever know how
much she helped me, at possibly the
lowest time in my life, or how much
her friendship means to me to this
day.
All I can say is,
THANK YOU Kim, God Bless you and
yours, for as long as you live!!!
The only person I have more
admiration, love and respect for, is
my wife Tammy.
Get Out There, Get After It,
No Excuses, No Regrets!

Parents, children,
friends, relatives, etc.
Carpe de um (cease the
day)
We think we have all the
time in the world, that those we love
will be a phone call, a short drive, or
flight away, and we can just wait until
we HAVE TIME, I suggest that we don't
WAIT!
Days turn into weeks,
month, years and then the ones we love
may not be there---God willing they will
be, however there are no guarantees.
You know those times
and we all do this, that we think I
should call so and so or stop by Dad &
Mom's or email a loved one. The next
time this crosses your mind---ACT ON IT,
no time like the present.
At every opportunity
call, email, or better yet visit the
important people in your life, tell them
you love them, give them a hug, they may
not, you may not, have this opportunity
again, Think About It!
My Training for Three
Fingers Sept. 14-18-2006, is still way
ahead of schedule, I can't wait, that
mountain is in a lot of trouble :-}!!!
God Bless :-}
Get Out There, Get After It,
No Excuses, No Regrets!

Another beautiful day in
Washington State, I could take a lot more of
this.
"To Give Anything Less
Than Your Best, Is To Sacrifice The Gift"
These are words I live by,
The Lord has give each of us very special
gifts!
Our Job is to recognize what
these gift are and then;
"Get Out There, Get After It,
No Excuses, No Regrets!"
Love your life and
everything in it, go after each day as it
could be your last. What's the last thing
you want to do here on earth?
Yell and scream at someone
on the freeway?
Or get out there in the world and make a
positive difference,
in your life and that of everyone you
encounter.
Get after your goals and dreams and you'll
have
Get Out There, Get After It,
No Excuses, No Regrets!
After my accident, I
learned a few things, I'd like to share them
with you today:
Life's order of
priority according to Tim---
1) Faith in God,
This is number 1!
2) Family and
friends (everyone you meat)
Love and except them
as they are, in your thoughts, words and
actions, every minute of every day.
Find out what you
were put here to do,
then do it with all
the passion you can muster!
Each day is a gift, and as
long as my eyes open, I'll focus on the new
day and all the happy memories I've stored
away. Just for this time in my life.
Life is like a bank account. You withdraw
from what you've put in.
So, my advice to you would be to deposit a
lot of happiness in the bank account of
memories! Thank you for your part in filling
my Memory bank.
"
Remember
the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.
Have A
Great Day and Remember;
Yesterday is History,
Tomorrow a Mystery,
Today is a GIFT,
That's why they call it the Present!
08-03-06
My Left foot is about 90%,
still a small bit of swelling and tenderness,
however I'm able to do anything I need to do.
I've been icing it 2-3 X a day, it's getting
better, just takes awhile. Going to my Doctor
tomorrow, to see if he'll write an RX for
Physical Therapy, to get that last 10% taken
care of ASAP! Sept. 14th is quickly approaching
and I just won't take any chances, this is one
of those T's that needs to be crossed!!!
Attention to every detail is a MUST, to be
successful and I'm in it, to win it :-}
07-31-06
"Every day you see me is the best
day of my life"
I really feel this way! I love my
life, my wife, children, family, friends, SAR
family, etc. I'm happier and more content then I've
ever been in my life! The main reason? My faith!
Once I gave my heart & soul to the
Lord, even the bad days have their redeeming
aspect---you can't learn less. Once you've had an
experience, good, bad or indifferent, you've learned
something about yourself, others and the world in
general, this can't be taken away from you. So
again, You can't learn less!
I had a fantastic strength training
session this morning and at 2100, I'm going to do my
cardio workout (Concept 2 rowing machine).
Today will be the first of many
interval cardio workouts, these are much harder then
a steady pace workout. Intervals are as follows; Two
minute warm up, then one minute ALL OUT, then back
to normal pace, then one minute ALL OUT, and so on,
for thirty minutes.
These are mind and body
callusing workouts, that make anyone
undertaking suck (such,
maybe ;-) a workout, much stronger,
body and mind. I'd rather suffer now, then
on the mountain :-}
7/30/06
Running was never work for me.
I LOVED TO RUN! Running was
my Prozac.
I totally enjoyed the mere
thought of spending ALL day Saturday running in the
mountains. Time stood still when I was running,
day to day challenges
vanished with every mile gone by.
My whole world was that
run, at that moment and it always ROCKED.
Running out of time to run,
was the only running I didn't like.
I never really finished a
run, I just ran out of time for that day and pushed
pause,
Looking forward to the next
opportunity to push play and pick up where I left off.
The morning of the day I
had my accident, I went for what I now know was my last
run. Three days before that I hiked up Mt. Pilchuck with
friends,
Three months before that I
was in Colorado and ran to the top of Mt. Elbert 14,433,
33 feet higher then Mt. Rainier.
Until tomorrow---God Bless
:-}
Get Out There, Get After It,
No Excuses, No Regrets!
"If you do what you've always done,
you're going to get what you've always gotten"
What a week! My workouts where that of a professional
athlete, however I feel as sore and tired like an
amateur.
I was at the YMCA. I had just finished a half hour of
cardio and a 90 min.
Biceps, triceps, chest and abs, workout, just about
ready to go home
and something amusing happened.
Five young men from Marysville Pilchuck High School,
(wrestlers)
where having a pull up contest. They all took turns,
one of them was able to do seventeen, real pull ups and
was very proud of himself, while
putting my lifting gloves back in my backpack, I laughed
to myself, I thought. The young man who had just
completed seventeen, turned
and said to me "I suppose you could do more?" I'll give
it a try, I said.
I jumped up and grabbed the bar, at thirty I sopped and
asked my challenger "how many would you like me to
do?" looking on in
amazement and disbelief, they laughed and my challenger
gave me a symbolic gesture with his hand, with a smile
on his face, he then walked to the other end of the room
and started working on another piece of equipment.
Friday 07-28, yesterday (my wife) Tammy's Dad Pat, had
triple bypass
heart surgery, Pat's whole extended family was there for
support.
Four hours after it began, Pat was rolled into recovery,
ALL went very well, now the rest is up to Pat. He can
take this as a wake up call, an opportunity, a new lease
on life, this is what I believe he'll do.
Some people after an experience like this, after the
danger has passed,
go right back to the behavior that put them in the
situation to begin with. It's ok to make mistakes, we
all do, as long as something is learned, gained form the
event and it's not repeated.
Definition of insanity;
"Doing the same thing and expecting a
different outcome"
Tammy and I are going on a short, part of the way up
Three Fingers, recon hike today, should be fun and some
useful feedback.
Until tomorrow---God Bless :-}

Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you
will help them become what they are capable of being."
-Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Keeping the faith
You can get just so much
From a good thing
You can linger too long
In your dreams
Say goodbye to the
Oldies but goodies
'Cause the good ole days weren't
Always good
And tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems.
Billy Joel (Just part of
song lyric)
These two are a just a couple of my
current favorites, there are more out there, however
there just isn't enough time to collect them and or
read them all. I come up with ideas (quotes) sound
bites of my own as well. Music is an especially
fertile place to find inspiration, along with the
Bible.
We just have to slow down long
enough to appreciate the subtle things, The things
right in front of us, that most of the time we look
past or right through.
This last week was awesome, my
business is at full steam, my training for Three
Fingers is ahead of schedule, and Tammy & I spent
last weekend up at Monte Cristo (MC), Trey Werner
and his brother Larry are camp hosts. MC was
beautiful, the scenery, the people hiking trough,
the peace and quite. Sat. afternoon I went for a run
in my Off Road wheelchair, I cruised
down to Twin Bridges, not really noticing it was ALL
DOWN HILL, until on the way back, when I hit Happs
Hill, the first hill on the way back to the MC Town
site---WOW, was that a Tour De France beyond
category hill!!! The next one proved to be almost as
difficult (I Named it Hopeless Hill). I made it back
to the Town site just in time to meet Trey at the MC
sign, he was coming to look for me. When I saw Trey
all I could say was "I'm hungry and tired, where are
the M & M's?"
More tomorrow as I plan on making
daily entries from here on out. I may miss a day here
and there, however daily is my plan.
Have A Great Day and Remember;
Yesterday is History,
Tomorrow a Mystery,
Today is a GIFT,
That's why they call it the Present!
Blessings :-} Tim Dehnhoff 07-20-06
I awoke Sat. morning early as usual, got
saved and showered, Tammy, myself and Trey Werner put
our Backpacks in the SUV and headed for our scheduled 3
Fingers preparation hike (one of many). Lake 22 was our
destination. I had some reservation going into this one,
not because of conditioning (strength or endurance) or
because of my still sore left foot. On mothers day last,
I spent the day in the emergency room at Everett General
hospital. My left foot was swollen and very sensitive,
it seem there was an infection. I spent the last six
weeks, doing my best to get back on both feet and was
making good progress. I shouldn't have even started the
Lake 22 hike knowing my foot was not yet 100%, I just
didn't want to let my TEAM or myself down. Discretion is
the better part of valor or so they say, I should have
swallowed my pride and put it off a week or two, however
testosterone poisoning (a man thing) took over and
clouded my judgment. This little error on my part put
me back a week or two. I' am 100% confident that well
before our Sept. 14 departure date, I'll be ready to
rock and roll at all levels, I just need to pay
attention to the details, my health!
So we arrived at the Lake 22 trail head,
we put on our packs and headed out. I was in a fare
amount of pain from the beginning, however I figured
once I got moving it would loosen up and feel better.
One hour latter it felt much worse, I stopped, looked at
my wife and said we're done for today! She wanted to
know what was wrong and I explained, being the awesome,
understanding person she is, her comeback was; "No
worries, that's what these preparation hikes are for to
find out what we still need to address and what's going
well"
We got back to the trail head and
decided it was such a nice day that we take our lunches
and go to Big Four (Ice Caves) picnic tales and sit in
the sun, talk and eat. After that we took a ride to
Monte Cristo and laid in the sun for awhile. All in all
a good day :-}

Get Out There, Get After It,
No Excuses, No Regrets!
7/06/06
I'm tired, it's the good kind of tired. You know what I
mean, when you've worked out so hard your hair hurts,
but it's a good feeling,a job well done. I'd rather make
sacrifices in the gym now, then up on Three Fingers in
September. Kind of like the old Fram oil filter
commercial; "Pay me $4 now for a new oil
filter or $400 later for an engine rebuild"
My training for Three Fingers is going
great, I'm doing strength training at the Marysville
YMCA, five days a week and cardio five to six days a
week at the YMCA (hand crank stationary bike), home
(Con. II rowing machine) and trail running in my off
road wheelchair (Trail around Arlington Airport).
I've lost approximately seventeen pounds
of body fat and gain another five pounds of lean muscle
mass, in the last two months. Everything is right on
schedule.
Mentally I've already been to the summit
and back down, I've seen myself succeed in vivid detail,
with all my team around me, congratulating each other.
Well, it's 1730 (5:30 for those that
don't do 24 hour time :-)and it's time to go do my
cardio, I already lifted at the YMCA this morning. Time
to get in workout number two for the day, then come home
and eat, more importantly rest, watching the Tour De
France.
Praise God :-}
